Lanai Experiments & the Iris Goddess

Last bra from my last batch cutting bit. I am absolutely LOVING how this bra came out! This is [yet] another Lanai Wireless - this time in our Iris Goddess Embroidered Lace.

I experimented a bit more with different fabric combinations to see how it affects fit.

FABRICS

This bra features a single layer of embroidered tulle and single layer for lining. Sheer cup lining was used in the lower cups, powerbar, and cradle as usual. The upper cup was lined in bra tulle while the back wing has a single layer of powernet. Firm double plush elastic was used in both the upper and lower band sections. Bra tulle (finished with FOE) was used for the internal sling. To maintain the sheer look of the cups, the tulle for the sling was selected in a compatible skin color.

PATTERN

This version utilizes the standard cradle with only one alteration was made - graded the BCD of the cups from 109 to 101.

FIT

I initially thought this bra was a failure due to the visually saggy breast but well fitting cup and band. This was a interesting as the cup uses the same sheer cup lining for 3 of the 4 pieces as my teal bra and all bra tulle in the purple bra [link to teal vs purple bras HERE]. The main takeway is that the combination of bra tulle (upper) + sheer cup lining (remainder) yields a bra that fits but lacks lift. This was resolved once the internal sling was attached. The sling, thankfully, functioned as designed - additional support from the bottom (creating more lift) and redirect breast tissue forward.

CONCLUSION

While the use of bra tulle creates an interesting pattern (see white “spots” in above pic) and is light and airy, a single layer (in combination with the embroidered tulle) isn’t quite enough support for saggy, post-partum breasts. This explains why many people double up the bra tulle (with perpendicular grainlines) and why I work almost exclusively with sheer cup lining (same support in a single layer - just as light). If you have pendulous breasts and love bra tulle, be sure to use multiple layers and consider using the optional internal sling.

I’m thrilled at the gentle support and separation of this version (what should I call this bra - Iris bra?). So glad I took the time to mirror the laces and the blues and purples really pop on the back background. I do think this needs a matching panty!
