Tutorial - How to Add a Nursing Clasp to the Lotus Pattern

A quick tutorial for those want to add a nursing clasp to any pattern with an internal sling. For today’s example, we are using the Lotus pattern. Paired with our new Lunaria Maternity Panty Pattern, its a match made in comfy heaven!

Here is a very short list of supplies required:

  • Nursing clasp (set of 2)

  • Fold over elastic

  • Vertical Sling Pattern Piece included in the Lotus Wireless Pattern

Simply add these steps to the Instructions.

STEP 2a

Trim off the seam allowance at the underarm curve of the sling pattern piece. Remove about 1” from the top (including the SA) at the side seam.

STEP 2b

Zig Zag the Fold Over Elastic onto the under arm curve. Repeat for other side.

STEP 2c

Baste sling to cup piece(s) along the side seam and wireline. Treat as one and follow remainder of sewing steps as usual.

STEP 10a

Test Hook and Eye height. Adjust  as necessary. With right sides up,  use a straight stitch to sew on the  strap elastic with the open end  facing the hook and eye. Align edge of elastic to edge of fabric and  straight stitch up one edge then  down the other.   Attach ring to the strap attachment point of the back wing.

STEP 10b

Attach the open end of the adjustable straps from Step 9 to the top of the upper portion of the nursing clasp. Attach the internal sling to the bottom of the same nursing clasp. Repeat for other side.

Attach the strap attachment point of the cup to the bottom portion of the nursing clasp. Repeat for other side.
